Description

Jagdalpur Airport is located near Jagdalpur, in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a pre-feasibility study in July 2013 for development of the airport.Airport Upgradation SurveyIn tune with the state government's initiative to boost air services in the industrially rich areas of the state, Jagdalpur airport has been identified for upgrade.Accordingly, in December 2015, a five-member team of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) along with Raipur airport officials visited Jagdalpur airport to study the feasibility of starting full-fledged commercial operations from there.The team, headed by member planning AAI, along with aerodrome inspector from DGCA, Expert from civil engineering, Assistant commissioner security from Bureau of civil aviation security Mumbai along with Airport director, and deputy director of state government aviation, inspected the facilities at the airport and suggested ways and means to upgrade them.The team identified the need to provide for and upgrade ATC (Air traffic Control), fire fighting services, terminal building for passengers' facilitation and security. With the completion of the terminal building and the control tower, services are expected to start soon.The visit was undertaken in connection with the proposal for upgrading Jagdalpur airport to 2C category, which would enable operations of 40-50 seats ATRs. Once green signal is given by the team, process to start commercial operations from the airport would be initiated.Airport Upgradation StatusChief Minister Raman Singh on Thursday performed bhoomi pujan for construction of terminal building and for taking up expansion works for Jagdalpur airport at a function held here on Thursday. During the programme, the Chief Minister also inspected the construction site. The Chief Minister while addressing gathering said that with the construction of terminal building, flights would be started soon which will surely benefit the people of Bastar division. The State government has inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air India for launching flights whereas the monetary loss to the airline if any would be borne by the State government as per the MoU, Singh further said. However, he expressed hope that there would be no loss for providing air services as most of the people want to travel by air from Jagdalpur. Meanwhile, District Collector Amit Kataria said that the State government has approved Rs 25 crore for the fiscal 2016-17 to develop infrastructure for providing passenger air services in Bastar division.
