The job they do here is so important, and the people who work here are really passionate about what they do! Also very friendly and will take you on a tour of the facilities. Be kind and leave a donation!

If you travel all over Sri Lanka, you can see the misery of street dogs on every corner. What the people at DCC are doing, is wonderful. In no other corner of Sri Lanka I have seen such a harmony between the humans and the street dogs as in Unawatuna. All the locals are excited about the work at DCC. And that even far beyond the city borders of Unawatuna. Sri Lanka needs more places like this one. Unlike European NGOs, the DCC is not entirely supported by donations. Each of us should support their fantastic work. I highly recommend a visit at the DCC – make your own picture of the work there.
Let's say it in the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Awesome work that these guys do! So many beautiful dogs. The vet here gave us some really good advice for a stray cat that we had found. Unfortunately they were not able to take the kitten in but they gave us a free treatment for the cat and prescribed some medications.

There are lots of stray dogs in Sri Lanka, and they are quite often neglected, abandoned, or abused. This place is primarily funded by a German lady who pumps in €50,000 every month. The work they do is to catch the stray dogs and bring them to the clinic, where they receive inoculations and any medication, as well as getting castrated. The dogs are cared for by very passionate dog lovers who name them all individually. They try to re-home whenever possible and run schemes to house them with pensioners, providing them with a small monthly stipend. They are good people.

A wonderful facility that is full of kind staff helping street dogs in need. It is truly heartbreaking to see good people, who are doing an incredible service and helping not only strays but locals who cannot afford care for their animals, critised here. No dog or family are ever turned away, these people are truly angels doing incredible work and Sri lanka is lucky to have such devoted people. I highly encourage you to visit if you can and better still support them financially!

I gave the location to the Clinic of a dog in very poor condition whilst I was on holiday and they made a visit and collected him within a couple of days. They were extremely responsive and positive and I'm now sponsoring the dog for his care and treatment. I really admire Marina and her team for actually taking action to help reduce the problem of an increasing population of street dogs with their neutering programme and providing care to those in need without being funded for the great majority.

An amazing organization and place. They care for up to 300 dogs at a time and have great schemes to get stray dogs into homes.

In answer to Ernest's comment below about them rounding up dogs to be spayed or neutered, this is a critical part of stopping the suffering and starvation of subsequent puppies and mother dogs. If you are irresponsible enough to allow your pet dog to roam outside and it is not fixed then you are adding to the problem. Fair enough if it is a female and you are going to take care of all those puppies. It a male will be getting countless females pregnant and ensuring the stray dog problem worsens.

Either keep your dog on your property and ensure it can't get out and others can't get in or be a responsible dog owner and have your dog fixed.

This is the only area in Sri Lanka where we haven't seen countless skinny puppies wandering around and poor mothers so underweight that they are barely able to survive and in a lot of cases not surviving. This is thanks to the great work of this centre.

It was great playing with 30 puppies at once!
